First Grade Student of the Month - Thatcher
Thatcher's turn for Student of the Month!

I've yet to fully surprise either kid with them not knowing they are getting an award. That cute little blonde in the photo, Layla, exclaimed, "THATCHER YOUR MOM'S HERE!" And just like that, another awards assembly where my kid knows they are getting one. Oh well.
Samantha skipped class to show her support.
Student of the Month for "Being Athletic". We'll take it! ;)
Video: Thatcher getting his award (I love how all the kids knew who it was just by Mrs. Howe's description)

After school McDonald's caramel sundae reward!

And a few bites for Lollipop because she had something to do with the award too. Not really, but she's part of the fam. ;)

Student of the Month - Thatcher
I was pretty sure that every student was awarded Student of the Month at least once in kindergarten, however, it was approaching the final days of school and Thatcher STILL had not been chosen. Even Thatcher kept asking me when it was going to be his turn. I finally asked Mr. Silva, "Are you skipping Thatcher for Student of the Month?!" To which he replied, "Saving the best for last!" Of course! That makes sense! ;)
The teachers try to keep the awards a surprise from the kids. Samantha and I snuck into the kindergarten room quietly and sat in the back hoping he wouldn't notice but he spotted us. I wish I could have gotten a picture of his gigantic grin when he saw us because he knew why we were there. He was so proud!
"The MOST IMPROVED on being focused!" WHAT?! lol Imagine those first 8 months of school!
Samantha at Thatcher's age, receiving the "Good Citizen" award.
Could these two be any more different?!

Here's to being more focused in the first grade!

Student of the Month
Samantha was recently selected as Student of the Month and the assembly theme was for those students who are considerate. Oh how proud we were of Samantha!
These are the words you want to hear your child's teacher describe your child as. ;)
Samantha was like a rock star afterwards with friends picking her up in the air to celebrate!
I love that Jack was with us because last year he happened to be with us when Samantha was awarded Student of the Month.
Last year with Samantha's two brothers ;)
This year.
Last year.

Student of the Month
One of our proudest moments of Samantha's kindergarten experience so far was when she was awarded Student of the Month this past December. Her teacher emailed us to keep it a secret from Samantha and that she would be presented with the award at a school assembly.
Todd unfortunately was not able to make it but Jack was ;) The boys were really funny. I had coached them before the assembly that we had to sneak onto the school without Samantha seeing us so we could keep it a surprise. It was recess when we arrived so we were doing all sorts of stealth moves, hiding behind trees, running past open gates, turning our backs and side stepping until we finally reached the kindergarten room where the students couldn't see us but we could see them through the windows because of the bright sun. Thatch and Jack were yelling, "There she is! SAMMY! SAMANTHA!" Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Samantha still had not seen us in the crowded back of the room when all the students arrived. Mr. Barnett, the principal, spoke about how proud he was of all the students especially the select few that were picked for this month's Student of the Month theme of "Being a Good Citizen" award.
The audio is a little low and the sunlit room was not very conducive for a video but hearing Samantha's teacher, Mrs. Mulligan, saying such special things about Samantha got me a little emotional. My cheeks hurt from smiling so hard. The boys and I were waving like crazy people in the back of the room and Samantha gave us a shy wave, acting quite cool as if she was accustomed to being awarded on stage in front of her peers or maybe she wanted the lunatics in the back to stop making a spectacle.
Proud brothers with their sister ;)
So SO proud of this girl!
