The difference between taking Thatcher to the doctor when Sam was his age is night and day. Every visit to the doctor up until about age four with Samantha was so nerve wracking. She was so afraid. Thatcher, on the other hand, LOVES going.
The first thing Dr. Abbott said when he walked in was that he would be skipping the part where he asks me how his speech and vocabulary are doing because from the moment he walked in, Thatcher would not stop talking and asking questions. "What's this? What's that?" Throughout the entire exam he was a little chatter box.
Shots?! Finger prick?! Yes please! "I like pokes."
This is his, "that hurt a little more than I thought it would smile."
But really, he was happy about the whole process, especially his new bandaids. Dr. Abbott said he is a doctor's dream patient. He makes up for all the times Samantha was so hysterical ;)
And very sweetly, Thatcher spotted Gwendolyn and very fitting that Thatcher was wearing his (counterfeit) GSF tee that Todd made ;)
Thatcher's 3-year Stats:
Weight: 33 pounds (50%)
Height: 38 inches (75%)
Samantha's 3-year Stats:
Weight: 31 pounds (50%)
Height: 38 1/2 inches (85%)
This is when Sam had her 3-year visit.
I love that I have a similar photo of Thatcher and Dr. Abbott above. They both have such a curious looks on their faces.
And of course, Samantha not loving getting "poked" in the finger or having a shot in her arm like her brother ;)
The day before he was excited for his birthday celebration at school. I tried to get some photos of him on his big day but as you can see, the whole, "stand still and smile" (normal smile that is) isn't really happening these days....
On your birthday at school you get to bring a birthday treat. Thatcher picked out chocolate chip muffins and blackberries.
He was so excited to receive his birthday crown when we arrived to preschool. (I thought the hat looked a bit pope-ish if you ask me....).

After school we did the usual, Starbucks and Costco and he sported his birthday crown the entire time. He loved the attention of random people saying his name and wishing him Happy Birthday.
Seriously, I can't get enough of all the silly faces this kid makes!
On his actual birthday we had tickets to see Yo Gabba Gabba at the Arlington Theatre. We planned to have a few friends over who were also going to the show and that was his "party".
Well, leading up to his birthday all he could talk about was his party and the bounce house and the balloons and the decorations and the cake and the friends and the grandparents and the presents and which special character was going to come attend his birthday like Belle did at his sister's birthday party..... We did the big party for him last year when he turned two and although we didn't hire a character to attend his special day, we did work hard (or I should say my friend Meredith worked hard) on that darn Rex cake!
So, there was no real party planned like he wanted and I started to feel guilty. So, we put a last minute plan in action and went out and got a cake, some decor and made sure the friends that were coming over were up for "the party" aka "when you get to our house, act like you are at a party for Thatcher" ;)
And it was the most random party decorations EVER! Todd found some Angry Bird items at Target on his way home from work.
And of course he hand drew some of the characters ;)
I picked up some other random party stuff at Michael's...
And voila, made it a "party"!
After nap we had a cranky birthday boy. I couldn't get him to smile.
Until I realized he was totally confused as to when the "party" was happening. I told him his friends were on their way and then we got a smile!
Hooray for friends!
One thing we did plan in advance to make his day special, a limo ride to the show!
The kids were mesmerized by the whole experience and took it all in on the way to the show. Stay tuned for how comfortable they got in the limo on the way home.....
As for the show, it was totally bazaar (have you seen the show on TV?!) but totally worth it and A LOT of fun!
Biz Markie was a definite highlight (for the parents!)

And this was the limo ride home..... And now all I hear when going somewhere is "can we take a limo there?" No car seats, a TV playing music videos, riding side by side with all their friends, yes, I'd say they thought that was pretty darn cool.
The limo ride came to an end and we came back to our house for cake and presents and I have to say, for throwing everything together last minute, Thatcher couldn't have had a better party. It all came together perfectly and I'd say all the parents had fun too ;)
