So, I know they say not to compare your kids because, "every child is different", but we totally compare our two over here, it is hard not to. Basically, Thatcher speaks Caveman and Samantha at his age was pretty articulate with words. We aren't sure if it is because we've heard boys don't talk as soon as girls or that the older sibling does the talking for the younger one or we talk to him less because he is our second, who knows?!
Besides grunting, he can say "Uh-Oh", "Ball", "Bye Bye", "Hi" ,"No No" "Ma Ma" and "Da Da". "Ma Ma" is also said for other things like when he wants something to eat which entails banging on the refrigerator door very Caveman-like. I actually think he may be trying to say "More" but I am not sure because the majority of the time it is "Ma". Other than that, he does a lot of squealing, making funny faces and more grunting.
I love this photo. Sister and brother watching a movie together (well to be honest, Thatcher happened to sit next to her for a few seconds and I snapped a picture).
The Wizard of Oz is the current favorite in our household right now. I've introduced Samantha to Annie and The Sound of Music. I love that she likes to dance and sing to these movies. Plus, it is such a breath of fresh air from Dora, Max and Ruby, Curious George, and Little Bear. And what's up with all the commercials on Nick Jr.?!
Sam: "Mom, will you buy me a Pillow Pet?"
Me: "You already have one."
Sam: "But I don't have the unicorn one."
Me: "Maybe for your birthday."
5 minutes later....
Sam: "Will you buy me a Happy Napper?"
Me: "A what?"
Sam: "It is a pillow that is a pet."
Me: "Isn't that a Pillow Pet?"
Sam: "No, it is different, it is a Happy Napper."
Me: "Maybe for Christmas...."
Sam: "I sure like those Lelli Kelly's shoes and they come with a cell phone that has make-up in it!"
Then a Polly Pocket, Barbie or some other Mattel treasure comes on the screen and we start over.....
By the way, when these Munchkins appeared on the screen Samantha yelled, "Those little boys sure look a lot like Thatchie!"
We FINALLY took the plunge and have the two kids sleeping in the same room at night. We put Thatcher to bed first around 7 (in a CRIB not a pack-n-play) and about an hour (or two) later, Samantha tip-toes in the room. After a quick look under her pillow to see what the Tooth Fairy left her (yes, we have bribed her) which is usually a penny, a piece of gum or some other trinket I find around the house, she is fast asleep. Oh and she knows that if she misbehaves at all during the day, the Tooth Fairy is called and told not to visit. Let's just say that she has been a pretty perfect princess lately.
In looking back, we probably should have merged the two sooner. Even on nights when Thatcher wakes up and cries, he never wakes up Sam. And the best part about it is how much fun they have together. Around 7 AM each morning we can hear them chatting away and playing together in Thatcher's crib.
Look how cute these two sleepyheads are in the morning :)
