Fall Garden

I never took any pictures of our summer garden this year.

Here is what's left.  A crispy cherry tomato plant.  We did have lots of tomatoes this year but they weren't quite as good as they were the year before.

Samantha was excited to pick a "snowman" tomato

Our year-round producing lemon tree is still cranking away.  Our orange and tangerine trees are getting there too.

Thatcher has done a good job of watering the herbs in his underwear and eating microwave popcorn.  Multitasking at its best!

Our "chocolate" bell peppers are still green.  They are supposed to turn the color of chocolate.

We planted lettuce, broccoli, beets and cucumbers.  And randomly, the garlic we planted over a year ago that we thought disappeared is now sprouting!  I had to look back at our previous gardening posts to find out when we even planted those things, it was May of 2011, so either garlic takes a really long time to grow or we are not doing it right.....

And look at our lettuce with all the sunshine we have been having!

I'd say it is definitely time to harvest our lettuce!

Salad anyone?

It's Raining, It's Pouring

Which means our grass is GROWING!

Yes, that's right.  We FINALLY did it, we HIRED someone to landscape our yard.

I apologize to all the kids who have enjoyed digging in our dirt yard for the past 3 years.  I can honestly say that you are the only ones who will be sad to see it go. Goodbye paw prints, tiny feet prints and adult shoe prints on our dark hardwood floors.  I will not miss you.

Our Garden

Our garden is officially out of control and I LOVE IT!  It has been a learning process since this was our first year planting one (which by the way, I can't believe it took us so long to plant a garden!!!).  We are still trying to figure out when to pick things, prune things and some things have yet to produce (um, hello garlic and shallots, where are you?), but overall we think we have been pretty successful.  I think I am most excited about our tomatoes that are FINALLY turning red and there are a TON!

Remember this?

It is now this:

We've come a long way since our Aerogarden days...... ;)

Fun in the Sun

I am posting this picture of our rose bushes in hopes that it makes up for our dead grass.

Better yet, we finished our garden box project this weekend!  We planted several varieties of tomatoes, bell peppers, strawberries, artichokes, cucumbers, radishes, jalapenos, Japanese eggplant, onions, garlic and a bunch of herbs: parsley, cilantro, basil, sage, chives, rosemary, thyme, oregano, dill and mint.
