It is a rite of passage in Santa Barbara that the summer before Kindergarten starts you attend Safety Town camp. What is funny is that I remember hearing parents talk about this when Samantha wasn't even a year old yet. Parents with Kindergarten age children were chit chatting about how you HAVE to go line up early at Foothill School to get your child into the program. Well, fast forward to now and Samantha recently graduated from Safety Town! And by the way, you can register online now so there is no waiting in line. ;)

Here is an excerpt from their website that describes it best:
Through movies, songs, and guest visits, the Safety Town program trains children to evaluate “safe” from “unsafe.” Under the guidance of volunteer youth instructors and credentialed teachers, children practice and experience their lessons in Safety Town, a miniature city layout built to the scale of a small child. Safety Town is a 17.5 hour course (3.5 hours per day, M-F, for 1 week). Topics discussed during the week include pedestrian, earthquake, fire, 9-1-1, bicycle, beach and pool, drugs, strangers, general play, along with personal and home safety. Children are visited by community safety professionals such as police, firefighters, forest rangers, paramedics, water safety professionals, and more. Program includes one off-site field trip, (ride on city bus reserved for Safety Towners only)
Samantha had lots of friends in the camp including her flamenco dancing bestie, Fallon!
After the weeklong camp they held a graduation ceremony complete with song performance.

Congrats to my little camper for earning the "Awesome Pedestrian" award!
Samantha LOVED this camp and we loved all that she learned. She has our address and phone numbers memorized, learned about 911, "Stranger Danger", pedestrian safety (she was Awesome at that!) and so many other important things that you should know before entering Kindergarten.
