We kicked off January 2019 with a girls' trip to NYC with Leanne and Lila! It turned out to be the best time to go. With Christmas and New Years over, it was less crowded and still decorated for the holidays.
And mostly sunny, kind of.
Lila really wanted to visit the American Girl Doll store in NYC with her doll. About six months before the trip, Sam moved all her dolls to the garage. She was fine if we gave them away, I was fine saving them because for some reason I still have my Cabbage Patch Kid dolls. Why am I saving them? I have no idea. ðĪ·♀️
So Samantha got on board, redressed the dolls and had Lila pick out her favorite for Sam to bring.
And then soon we were boarding a plane with American Girl Dolls!
Very early morning flight from SBA to the east coast.
Leanne is not a morning person ð. Neither is Sam, but she was so excited!
Made it!
A glimpse of the Statue of Liberty from a distance.
The doll. ð
Checked into the swanky Gansevoort Hotel that had the best revolving doors to enter and exit from. We'd all giggle when you shared a door especially when you weren't paying attention and went in with a stranger. ð
View from our room of the Meat Packing District.
All bundled up and ready to go out and explore. We knew we only had a few days so we were determined to pack everything in.
Rooftop deck of the hotel.
We headed out on foot to the Chelsea Market.
Dinner at Le Song.
We had been up for who knows how long but we all were ready to keep on going.
Look how fun the decor is!
We walked and walked and walked.
Rockefeller Center.
Ice Skating!
Harder than it looks ð
We checked in with the boys and promised Thatcher we'd bring him something back and think about taking him on our next girls' trip. ð
Room service hot chocolate and two giddy girls ready for more!
Morning view from our window.
I work east coast hours not because I have to but because I have an east coast alarm clock in my brain. It worked out well on this trip to get up and do a little work downstairs at the hotel cafe because someone had to get the three sleepy heads up and moving. ððĪŠ
They are up!
And our fearless leader Leanne walked us miles and miles around the city.
We explored everywhere!
Madison Square Garden.
Post Office.
Bryant Park.
The girls really got into photography on the trip.
ð
Grand Central.
Bergdorf Goodman.
The Plaza Hotel.
Inside The Plaza shops.
Central Park.
Sam's doll looks like it just left the plastic surgeon's office.
I had lists from friends of things to do in NYC and one of them was to find the Mandarin Duck in Central Park and we found it! Sadly, I am reading now that the duck has gone missing since we were there.
Art dealing!
Window shopping.
The Peninsula Hotel.
St. Patricks Cathedral.
Fifth Avenue.
AGD store!
We made a last minute decision to get tickets to School of Rock and it turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The kids in the musical were so talented!
Another friend of mine said to make sure you go to the back of the building after a show because most likely you will get to meet some of the cast. The girls were so excited for the autographs.
Late night dinner!
And then a longggg walk back to the hotel. Or maybe we hailed a cab. I can't remember now but we did get good at hailing cabs. We made a mistake of calling Uber once while there and it's more efficient and way cheaper to yellow cab it. Which seems to be the opposite of every other city.
Almost 20K steps!
Back at it again, walking every inch of NYC!
We got cultured at The Met.
Champagne and chocolate cake before exploring art.
Visiting the 911 memorial and museum was also a highlight.
Hitting up Zara!
Bumper to bumper traffic trying to get to Radio City Hall in time for The Rockettes.
It was faster to get out of the cab and walk!
Dinner at Serafina.
This was a face from one of the characters in School of Rock and these two kept trying their hardest to replicate it. They seem Broadway bound, right?
We realized we had a theme going on with our outfits. ðŊ
Leanne is the easiest and most fun to travel with! We were already planning our next trip!
Our final day ðĒ. Breakfast at The Standard.
A rainy walk around the High Line which by the way, we lucked out that this was the only day it rained because it definitely would have been a different trip trying to navigate fitting in as much as we were able to do. It isn't easy getting around NYC in the rain.
That doll again. ð
Our welcome home crew!
Obviously I didn't do a good job of bringing Thatcher home something and had to grab an I ❤️ New York monkey from the airport. ðŽ
He seems to like it!
Here's some video from the trip!
