Romeria De Verano 2015

Right before Old Spanish Days Fiesta starts, Linda Vega has their annual recital called the Romeria De Verano. I have no idea what that means but I did just enroll our kids in an after school Spanish class so perhaps they will be able to enlighten us one day without me having to Google translate everything.

One of our best friends and NEW neighbor, Leanne, is new to the Vega flamenco family. Her daughter, Lila, was performing for the first time. And yes, that is a caboodle Todd is holding. We showed up at her house before the dress rehearsal to help her get Lila ready. It is NOT easy getting these girls ready with their hair, makeup and costumes. We were all in Hawaii together when they were doing the makeup demonstration at the studio so I volunteered to be Leanne's teacher ;)

When you are this little, under the age of 6, you've got to do this crazy bun and spit curls. We were like a professional makeup and hair service showing up bright and early to get Lila ready.

We arrived to the dress rehearsal and received more pieces to our costume like this giant flower (Sam looks so thrilled....). The costumes are entirely handmade for every single student and finishing touches are happening right up until their first performance.

During their call time they run through the routine a few times with Linda on a microphone critiquing Every. Single. Move.

And then the morning of the performance they need to meet at Marjorie Luke Theatre in costume for another run-through BUT they don't need hair and makeup. I actually kind of like the fresh-faced, 7-year-old look better than all the makeup but if you asked the girls, while they aren't patient getting all dolled up, they LOVE to get all fancy with the makeup.

It was really special having Lila a part of flamenco this year.

Fallon is another special part of flamenco. Having their family involved in this, at times, hectic activity, makes it a little more sane. We certainly have a lot of laughs, that's for sure!

A few hours until showtime and Leanne was over attempting to do hair and makeup by herself with some coaching by yours truly. I actually thought Leanne had the hair and makeup down pretty good but fast forward to actual Fiesta and poor Leanne had the flamenco police critiquing her backwards spit curls. Hee hee ;)

All dressed and backstage.

Both sets of grandparents were in attendance.

Samantha is in the "Gitanitas" group. Again, I'm Spanish challenged but I do know they were referred to as the "gypsies" too.

Look at this handsome usher! It's Sofia's big brother. Thatcher LOVES Alex. Alex used to come over all the time to see Thatcher and play catch with him when we were neighbors. Soon Alex was in jr.  high and then now high school and well, I think Thatcher just became a bit of a pest to him ;)

The girls did great!

After they dance they hang out backstage until intermission until they can come watch the second half of the show. Fallon's mom was a backstage helper so she sent me all these pictures.

Thatcher presented Lila with flowers. She was pretty shy about it ;)

After show dinner at Los Agaves with my parents.

Someone else was obviously needing some attention ;)
